MORTON (WEEK) — Some gyms and fitness centers offer unique ways to challenge their members, but one location in Morton is giving visitors the opportunity to really break out.
BRelentless Training and Sports Performance hosted its second annual “Smashing the Scales” event on Saturday.
Members said goodbye to their scales and goodbye to an unhealthy mindset.
Owner Justin Bolkema says today’s diet culture has caused people to form an unhealthy relationship with their scale.
He believes that by thinking of health as a lifestyle and not as a number, it can change the way people view themselves and their habits.
“We just need to disassociate the word “weight” with “health”. These scales have haunted our lives long enough – they have absolutely no reflection of your actual health,” Bolkema said. “Today, people have the opportunity to bring their scale in and just (beat it) with a sledgehammer and smash it into a million pieces.”
Bolkema says he designed his gym to feature state of the art equipment and a modern twist on physical fitness.
He says events like these are what is most important in achieving one’s health goal.
