Police have responded to a subject who has barricaded themself inside a Miami home.
City of Miami Police responded to the scene near Northwest 46th Street and 5th Avenue, Monday afternoon.
According to Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo, officers first received the call at 12:05 p.m.
Police have evacuated the surrounding area, including an elderly living facility.
Police added that the subject is an 80-year-old man who pulled a rifle and pointed it at a nurse working at the elderly living facility. Once they arrived, they said the man confirmed he had a rifle.
Acevedo said that the subject may be an Army veteran dealing with a psychological crisis.
“The subject is a veteran, probably Vietnam War is what we believe. He’s armed with a rifle, and if he watches me, listens to me, please just know that your family’s here, he’s loved, people care about you. Please come on out so we can get you some help. Whatever your issues are, we’re gonna help you with that,” he said.
Police are working to get the subject to come out of the home.
