UTICA (WEEK) — The LaSalle County coroner says three people have been killed in a blast on the bank of the Illinois River in Utica.
Coroner Rich Ploch says after an investigation, it was determined three men were killed due to injuries sustained from a blast Thursday evening.
Authorities determined the individuals appeared to have ignited a type of black powder substance along an area near the river bank south and west of the Ill. Route 178 bridge.
The identities of the three men are being withheld pending notification of family.
Several departments were called to the scene in the early evening hours Thursday, including the Kane County Bomb Squad, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office, Utica Police Department and the Illinois Conservation Police.
